  Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
  • What is it?  This insect, native to Asia, is metallic green, about .5" long.
  • What's the problem? The EAB lays eggs on ash trees in the summer.  Larvae hatch and feed under the bark in the summer and fall.  Adults emerge from trees in spring through D-shaped holes and present from mid-May to late July.  All native ash trees attacked by EAB are killed and millions of trees have died because of the infestation.
  • How is it spread? Originally it was probably imported in wooden crates or pallets.  The EAB is now primarily transported in firewood.  It is important that you DO NOT transport firewood outside of its local area.
  • How do I recognize it?
    • Adult is a metallic, emerald green color
    • Adult is about .5" long
    • Larvae are flat and pale
